The Chilean Rose tarantula, also known as the rose hair tarantula, the Chilean fire tarantula, or the Chilean red-haired tarantula, is probably the most common species of tarantula available in American and European pet stores today.
In the wild they live on the ground and like to rest and stay protected from predators by hiding under rocks, in burrows and inside tree hollows. They usually dig small burrows or find abandoned reptile or rodent burrows to live in, which they then line with their silk. their sensitive, spiky hair helps them navigate their way around to hunt and capture prey.
This tarantula has a diverse diet, including numerous beetles, caterpillars, crickets, cockroaches, grasshoppers, mealworms, silkworms and even small rodents.
Females have been known to live as long as 20 years.
